About the Area

Fitzrovia is a diverse neighbourhood located in central London, nestled between Marylebone, Soho and Bloomsbury. It is home to small media companies, a number of pubs, restaurants, cafés and a selection of hotels. Fitzrovia is also well known for its art galleries and artist community, which dates back to the 1700s. Many famous painters and writers lived in this area, including painters Richard Wilson and Walter Sickert, and writers George Bernard Shaw and Virginia Woolfe. Many musicians also made their debuts in Fitzrovia, such as Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan. This neighbourhood is particularly well known for its music venues, public houses and nightclubs where the community's artists congregate. In addition to its reputation as an artist's hub, this neighbourhood is also renowned for being home to a number of big names in the architecture and design, fashion, photography, advertising and television production industries. Despite its west-end location, and the fact that it's home to a wide range of businesses, Fitzrovia is a laid-back community that doesn't have the same hustle and bustle of other west-end neighbourhoods. You can find books, art, clothes, culinary treats and much more while roaming the streets in Fitzrovia.
