About the Area

Belgravia is a well-known district in the City of Westminster in Central London. This area is known for being one of the wealthiest areas not only in London, but also in the entire world. Much of Belgravia was owned and developed by Richard Grosvenor, former Marquess of Westminster, in the early 19th century, and the Grosvenor Group still owns a large portion of the property in this district. The area is characterized by palatial, white-stucco homes with magnificent terraces and balconies. With its stunning, opulent architecture, spectacular gardens, exclusive shops and remarkable stone churches, it's easy to see why this neighbourhood is in a class all its own.

Places of Interest

Despite being considered a quiet area, Belgravia is thought to be one of the most fashionable and upscale areas in London. Though this area is largely residential, you'll also find a number of upscale hotels and a variety of entertainment venues and galleries. This neighbourhood is made up of more than 300 boutiques and businesses, with shopping districts that are known around the world. After a day of high-fashion shopping, you can also peruse through a book or two at a quaint book shop or enjoy a delectable treat at one of Belgravia's award-winning confectioneries.

The main features of Belgravia are Belgrave Square and Eaton Square. The residences at Belgrave Square have been home to many aristocrats and embassies since it was first constructed in the 1820s. Though larger than Belgrave Square, Eaton Square is not as grand, but is still stunning in its own right. The houses at Eaton Square remain predominantly residential, although many have been split into individual flats. At the east end of Eaton Square, you'll find historic St. Peter's Church, which was built between 1824 and 1827. Both Belgrave and Eaton Squares have breath-taking gardens as their central features. Along with spectacular gardens and fantastic shopping, there are a number of historic sites to see in the area, such as Wellington Arch, St. Barnabas Pimlico and Apsley House. Other sites are also within easy reach, such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Belgravia's peaceful streets are a perfect place for a leisurely stroll to window-shop and admire the incredible gardens and architecture.
